We use the Mogen clamp circumcision method on Newborns up to 6 weeks of age (some exceptions apply).

With more than 6000 newborn circumcisions performed to date, Dr. Greyvenstein recognize that the decision to circumcise your young boy is not always easy. When you decide to bring your boy to our clinic for a newborn circumcision we will ensure that all your concerns are addressed before proceeding. Our standardized discussion process will include the following:

  • The Canadian Pediatric Society’s view on newborn circumcision
  • The risks and potential benefits of newborn circumcision
  • The process and explanation of our technique
  • Contra-indications for circumcisions
  • After care instructions
  • Follow up process – we will phone you 24-72 hours post circumcision to discuss after
    care.

With a yearly average of more than 500 circumcisions performed and an extremely low rate of complications (less than 0.1%), we feel that you can feel confident in your decision to circumcise or not.

Our one year satisfaction rate (based on more that 2000, 1 year follow up phone calls) is 99.8%.

Post Circumcision Care

Your baby had a circumcision today, please follow the post-operative care:

  1. After 24 hours: Air your baby out for 20 minutes three times a day for one week.
  2. 0.5 ml of Infant Tylenol can be given for the first 24 hours, every 4-6 hours.
  3. Do not submerge your baby in a bath for seven days. A sponge bath is fine.
  4. Apply vaseline from a tube with each diaper change for one week and put the diaper on tightly with the penis pointing downward.
  5. Remove all stool from the penis gently with a wet cloth or baby wipe.
  6. Report any excessive bleeding. Blood stained spots on the diaper is acceptable for up to two days, but any blood seen dripping is not normal.
  7. Swelling will appear in the first day and will last for 48 hours.
  8. Any redness/discharge/swelling beyond 48 hours needs to be reported within 24 hours.
  9. Please call our office with any concerns (403.726.0524).
  10. Go to Alberta Children’s Hospital/South Health Campus or call EMS for after-hours emergencies. We are open until 9pm.
